Talent Development in Sport Requires Athlete Enrichment: Contemporary Insights from a Nonlinear Pedagogy and the Athletic Skills Model

Traditional talent identification and development programs have sought to identify select the most promising children as athletes of future, provide them with specialised training preparation for expert performance in sport from an early age. models tend be linear, emphasising numbers hours spent training. However, major concerns been raised by evidence emerging on psycho-emotional physical issues specialisation programmes, negative associations wellbeing mental health. More contemporary emphasise a deep integration more general enrichment athleticism. This integrative process enhances self-regulation processes perception action, well emotional control social interactions, all which underpin sports at elite sub-elite levels. Here, we discuss insights principles pedagogy, such Nonlinear Pedagogy (NLP) Athletic Skills Model (ASM), offer valuable frameworks development. We conclude considering implications adopting developing athlete functionality specific environments.
